This respiratory handout is a full overview of the respiratory system. It covers the structure and function of both upper and lower respiratory tracts, paranasal sinuses, brief descriptions of each organ and relevant distinction between the respiratory mucosa and the respiratory membrane, with the respective epithelium. Special topics such as hemoglobin binding, loading and unloading of the RBC, details of oxyhemoglobin and carbaminohemoglobin, perfusion coupling,  as well as management of the carbonic acid buffer system are discussed with how compensations are managed for respiratory acidosis and respiratory alkalosis. Lastly, a brief overview of common disorders are defined.
