This immunity handout is a full overview of the lymphatic organs and immune system divisions. It covers the structure and function of the system, both through natural and adaptive immunity with brief descriptions of the primary and secondary (accessory) organs and a clear listing of First, Second and Third Lines of Defenses. Lymphatic transport is discussed starting from the lymphatic capillaries and ending with the right lymphatic and thoracic ducts. Both complete and incomplete antigens are explained, as well as MHC protein complexes and CD4 & CD8 receptors and how hey relate to the compatibility and design of our adaptable Immune systems. Specific and non-specific immunity are contrasted to demonstrate this major division in function. Humoral and Cell- Mediated Immunity are described along with the correlation of antibodies, T-Helper cells and T-Killer cells that are responsible for the coordinated response to exposures in the 3rd line of defense. Lastly, brief definitions of major dysfunctions of the lymphatics are also listed.
